Meet the Trainers
Chris Charles
Chris is a fully approved HSE trainer and assessor. Chris is also a PADI Master scuba diving instructor with over 18,000 dives' experience. See extreme-marine.co.uk for further details.
Chris has been teaching Medic First Aid/Emergancy First Response since 1991.
Mike Young
At the University of North London and the University of Guildford Mike studied Sports Medicine for four years with ‘The Society of Sports Therapists’. This involved all skeletal and soft tissue therapy, along with Manual Therapy and Manual Release techniques. See mikeyoungsportstherapy.com for further details.
Since September 2003 Mike has been working for ‘Avon Ambulance’ as a First Responder in Portishead. This entails dealing with all 999 calls sustaining life support until an ambulance arrives. This is on a voluntary basis and is not a paid position. Mike is approved by the HSE to provide ‘First Aid at Work’ training.
Judith Goldsmith
Judith trained as a Registered Nurse in Bristol in 1973 and has worked at both the Bristol Royal Infirmary and Frenchay hospital. Judith also worked in the inner city community with the older adult population before working as a team leader in treatment room services in East Bristol. Judith also worked at British Areospace and Carrefour Hypermarket in Bristol as an occupational health nurse.
In 1996 Judith gained a Masters Degree in Nursing Studies from The University of Wales (College Swansea) and a Post graduate Diploma of Education from the University of the West of England and then taught for 12 years at The City of Bath College teaching Health and Social Care courses, work based courses for those working in nursing, residential and independent settings and acting as team manager for assessors of NVQs in Health and Social Care, Cleaning and Support Services and Customer Service within the NHS.
Judith has been involved in the delivery and assessment of HSE approved first aid courses for 20 years.
